Airfryer vs Actifry

Airfryer-vs-Actifry

Someone who has been using an ordinary fryer the whole life may not be able to understand the difference between Airfryer and Actifry. Well, to be honest, there is no real difference when it comes to the technology that these fryers use in order to fry the food – both are based on the mechanism of hot air circling around and frying the food instead of pouring down gallons of unhealthy oil. However, if we take a closer look, there are some basic things that differ between the two which actually make them very unique.

There are two particular and leading fryers of this kind (and they’re the only ones as far as I know) – Tefal Actifry Fryer vs Phillips Airfryer – so let’s compare them.

Which one is more practical?

When it comes to practicality, we can safely assume that Phillips wins this round simply due to the fact that its design allows us to handlefood more efficiently. In other words, Actifry has a bit whole in the middle of the cooking bowl which helps the stream of hot air. This whole was always a bit of a nuisance for people who just want to drop the food in when they had finished preparing it.

On the other hand, Actifry has a special system for rotating food itself, thus frying it even from all sides – a feature that Airfryer misses. Therefore, if you are a person who likes the food fried even (who doesn’t?), maybe Actifry is a better solution when it comes to practicality.

Appearance, buttons, knobs…

Airfryer comes both in digital and analog versions while Actifry has only a digital version. Both of them have timer that can be set and the only difference is in the maximum number of minutes that can be set – Airfryer 60 minutes and Actifry 99 minutes.

The second thing regarding buttons is the temperature adjustment button – it does not exist on Actifry fryers, where the temperature is a constant of 338 degrees of Fahrenheit. On the other hand, Airfryer allows you to set the temperature between 180 and 380 degrees.

The most important thing when it comes to the appearance in this battle of Tefal Actifry vs. Philips Airfryer is whether you can actually see the food being fried – and this round goes to Actifry. Although you cannot actually affect the food in both of them, it is always nice to take a look and see how things are going. But it is a feature which is simply not possible in Airfryer, since they are non-transparent.

When it comes to size of them, Actifry is a bit bigger. Phillips’ kid has a 1.8 pounds basket for cooking while Tefals kid has 2.2lb. Furthermore, Tefal has a special kind of Actifry called Tefal Actifry Family which is even bigger and, according to them, can cook up to 1.5kg of French fries just in one batch.

Which one is safer?

When it comes to safety, the main thing that needs to be questioned is whether they are safe for dishwasher since a lot of electricity is in them. Well, they are. They are both made in such a way to prevent the water from entering the electricity in any way.  Therefore, I must state that it is a tie on this matter.

There is also this feature called Auto shutdown which activates when the frying is over as a manner of protection from a potential fire. This is the feature present only in Airfryer while you have to turn off your Actifry manually.

To sum up, it is a very tough decision to tell who the winner is. After all, both of them have certain features that can be both helpful and unhelpful, depending on the point of view. But let’s say it simple – in the battle of Tefal Actifry vs Philips Airfryer I would choose the latter since I live alone and do not need large amounts of food to be prepared per meal. However, it is again different from person to person. After all, choosing either one of them will certainly make your food healthier due to the fact that both use less oil (up to 80%) and that means less fat.
