How-to-Clean-the-Coils-of-a-Commercial-Deep-Fryer

From chicken to appetizers and French fries, commercial deep fryers can make them all. They allow food to be cooked quickly and evenly, with a nice crunch on the outside. This is achieved by submerging the food in hot oil. Unfortunately, using a deep fryer also means that you must clean it. Here is the easiest way to clean one of the main components of your deep fryer- the coils.

Gathering Your Supplies

Before you can clean your deep fryer, you will need to get the following supplies:

  • Boilout cleaner
  • Vinegar
  • Warm water
  • Clean towels
  • Teflon or metallic pot scrubbers (unless you have a non-stainless steel fryer-then use plastic)
  • Pot scrubber brush with long handle

How to Clean Commercial Deep Fryer Coils

Regular cleaning of the coils of your commercial deep fryer is critical to preventing burnt on grease from contaminating new oil, as well as keeping oil fresh longer. Follow these steps to easily clean your fryer.

  1. The first thing that you will need to do is drain all of the oil from the fryer. If you see any loose debris, be sure to remove this as well.
  2. Use water to completely fill the deep fryer. For every five gallons, add 1-2 scoops of boilout cleaning solution.
  3. Turn the fryer on a low heat and heat until you achieve a slow boil. Let this boil for twenty minutes, to effectively loosen debris from the sides and bottom of the fryer.
  4. After twenty minutes have passed, use the long-handle scrubbing brush to loosen debris or grease that may still be leftover.
  5. Drain the water from the deep fryer.
  6. Take your Teflon or metallic pot scrubber and clean the interior of the deep fryer completely. Scrub until there is no remaining debris or grease.
  7. Use clean water to rinse the fryer.
  8. Take the oil and flush the fryer. This will prevent new oils from braking down, as well as remove any residue that may remain from the cleaning process.
  9. Take a towel and wipe down the fryer. Be sure that it dries completely before adding new grease and turning the fryer on.

Extra Maintenance Tips

If you perform these commercial deep fryer maintenance tips, then you may be able to go three to six months before cleaning the coils of your fryer.

– Take Advantage of Oil Changes

When you change the oil of your commercial deep fryer, clean the heating elements and/or ribbons that are usually submerged. You should also scrub the walls of the fryer, to prevent an excess buildup of debris and grease.

– Always Clean the Fry Baskets

At the end of the business day, an employee should remove and clean the fry baskets. You can hand wash them or use a dish machine. Dry thoroughly. It can be very dangerous to place a wet fry basket in oil, because it can cause hot oil splatter.

– Have Your Fryer Inspected Annually

You should also have year inspections of your fryer, unless a different timeframe is recommended by the manufacturer. Inspect the fryer for any leaks and be sure that all of the fittings are tight. If anything appears worn out or loose, replace or tighten the fitting.

Other Commercial Deep Fryer Tips

– Keep the Exterior Clean

When you do not properly clean the exterior of the fryer, it can cause oil buildup. Overtime, this can drip down onto the floor and cause a slip hazard.

– Use Safe Temperatures

You should always take care not to exceed the temperature that the manufacturer recommends. If you want to make your oil last long, do not exceed 375 degrees. You should also avoid adding salt to the oil

– Invest in a Device that Limits Temperatures

Heating oil too hot can cause smoking, burning, and even a grease fire. In a commercial setting where several people may be operating the deep fryer, it can be hard to keep track. The temperature may also accidentally get turned up. To prevent this, invest in a temperature-limiting device that will cause the deep fryer to automatically shut off when a certain temperature is reached.
